The One Simple Thing You Can Do Every Day to Find Peace

If I could give you one simple piece of advice for how to bring a sense of peace and tranquility into your everyday life; if I could give you just one little trick that you could do at any time of the day, in any place…it would be this:

As often as you naturally remember to do so, consciously allow everything to be as it is. No matter where you are, who you’re with, or what you’re doing, just let whatever is happening happen.

Don’t put loads of effort into it. Put just enough effort for it to be a conscious thing that you are doing, but not too much effort that you become tense or are focusing really hard.

So, for example, let’s say you’re driving your car and you’re stuck in traffic. Just allow the traffic to be as it is. Allow the cars to be where they are. Or let’s say you’re sat talking to someone you are finding boring or irritating, see what happens if you allow them to be as they are. Give them total and utter permission to be just the way they are right now.

You can do this is any situation throughout your day. Even if you’re having a good experience, you can deepen it by fully allowing it to be as it is. But also, once a good experience comes to an end, allow the ending to be as it is. Allow things to come, then allow them to go, all with the same acceptance, all with the same ease and flow.

This doesn’t just include things outside yourself, it includes things INSIDE you too. You can do it with your own thoughts and feelings. Is your mind really busy, with lots of thoughts? Just allow the thoughts to be as they are. Are you feeling sad or angry? Just allow the feelings to be as they are. Are you aware of your own weaknesses and faults? Allow them to be as they are. Allow yourself to be as you are.

You are an imperfect human being. So is everyone else. Life is imperfect. Allow it all to be as it is.
