Following on from my previous post, Nutrition for Depression, Anxiety, Bi-polar & Schizophrenia, I would like to get into a bit more detail about a specific area of treatment. I’m talking about very high doses of Niacin, also known as Vitamin B3.

This is a fascinating topic, because many people are scared of taking high doses of vitamins. The thing is, the benefits can be so great, and the risks so tiny, that it actually seems madness not to pursue nutritional therapy. If you compare this to drug treatments, which are often ineffective and yet come with a huge list of risks and side-effects, it is clear that the standard approach for the treatment of severe mental illness is actually insane.

Why is this so?

It is because the drugs industry has a lot of control over standard medicine, including psychiatry. Drugs are patentable, and can therefore earn a lot of profit for the companies that make them. Vitamins are not patentable, and cannot earn the same amount of profit for companies. Therefore, for any illness where there is a standard drug treatment, any effective non-drug treatment is seen as a threat.

Anyway, that’s enough of me ranting. It’s time to hear from the real experts on this subject. Below is a series of short videos about Niacin therapy. The first features Andrew Saul, PhD, talking about the use of high dose Niacin to treat Severe Depression. The rest of the videos contain audio clips of Dr Abram Hoffer talking about using Niacin to treat Schizophrenia.
